Uses for Loxley Fixative Spray

Loxley Spray Fixative is a colourless non-yellowing medium with UV protection for use on charcoal, pencil, pastel, crayon, chalk drawing & paintings.

How to use?

For Charcoal, Pastel and Pencil etc.

Loxley Fixative is used for both during and after the drawing process. You need to apply the fixative to the work in progress in order to ‘fix’ layers and prevent any smudging. Make sure you allow a couple of minutes for it to dry before you continue drawing. Then apply the final coat which will protect the finished picture from smudging.

For Watercolour, Acrylic and Digital Print

Loxley Fixative gives your finished painting a protective, non-gloss barrier which slows down the aging process caused  by UV rays and humidity. It can also be used in the restoration of artwork.

Tips for using Fixative Spray

Tip 1 – It is important to keep a bit of distance between the can and your painting, in order to get a more even spread of the fixative. Make sure you shake the can thoroughly, and give it a light, even spray, using deliberate motion of left to right and up to down.

Tip 2 – It is also important that you don’t overspray your painting, especially if it is a pastel painting as it can turn into a sticky mess. Over spraying may also darken light colours, so make sure you just give your painting a light, even spray.

Tip 3 – It is important when spraying your painting to be either outdoors or in a well-ventilated area. However be mindful of the wind as it affects where the fixative lands on your artwork, therefore creating an inconsistent finish.

Tip 4 – When spraying your painting, it is important to wait around 5 to 7 minutes between each coat. Also, if you turn your artwork 90 degrees before each coat, it creates a more consistent look. It is important that you allow the fixative to completely dry before you touch the work.
